PEAT Minutes – 15 April 2009 – The Antelope, Wareham 7.30pm – 9.30pm
Chair Sophie P
Present: Katie, Sophie, Brett, David, Ian, Diane, Barnaby
1. Introductions
Barnaby from Swanage joined the group for the first time.
2. Website and blog
Since we were such a small group, we didn’t discuss the website and blog in any detail.
3. PEAT day out
All agreed that 26 April is a bit soon and we now propose Monday 4 May (bank holiday). We can possibly use Slepe House as a venue, although the inside area is fairly small.
4. Skills audit 2
Skipped since many people missing.
5. Photos and bios
Skipped
6. Team updates
We had a discussion about the film screenings and the need for us to prepare for the discussion sessions. For each screening we need someone to introduce the speaker, a speaker (all booked now) and then facilitators for the discussion groups. We need to come up with some questions we can put to the group to start up the discussions. We also need to ensure that we have leaflets/ postcards available for people to take with them.
- film group and communications group meetings required ASAP!
- Katie to sort out licencing for films
No other team updates as team leaders not present.
7. Publicity opportunities
We talked about advertising for the film screenings specificially but this could also apply to other events and generally awareness raising. Other than the Purbeck Gazette, we could also advertise in the Corfe Valley News (deadline already passed?), The Dubber and other parish papers.
We compiled a list of some group in the area, such as Rotary and WI, which we could invite to the screenings. If they enjoy the events we could offer to visit them to give talks etc.
Janine has also produced posters.
- Diane to ensure film screenings are covered in the parish magazines and through the parish noticeboards
- Sophie to collate contact details of other groups in Purbeck to invite to the film screenings
- Katie to send the list compiled at the meeting to Sophie please!
8. Transition training in Dorset
Brett, Paul and Vicky are applying to attend the training. Two places are allowed per transition group, but there may be room for another one.
9. Constitution
Collette has been having discussions with Dorchester Transition but was not present at the meeting to fill us in (I believe they are currently reviewing their constitution and have invited us to meet with them if we want further info/ advice). Diane has some experience in setting up non-profit organisations.
- Diane to prepare a briefing document for the next meeting detailing how we can register (ie as a company limited by guarantee, unincorporated association, trust) and what’s involved.
10. Fundraising
PEAT have applied to Lush for some funding for printing leaflets and hiring venues for the film screenings. Once we have more idea of other projects and their costs, we will apply for more funding. Katie has been attending the Chalk and Cheese meetings, there may be some opportunities there as well as through the landill community trusts (such as Viridor).
11. Green Map
Sarah A absent. Skipped.
12. Purbeck Heritage Strategy
Agreed this was not really relevant to PEAT. We should focus more on the community strategies.
13. AOB & next meeting
Next meeting Wednesday 13 May, Kings Arms, Langton. 7.30pm
Note for future – don’t book meetings during Easter as everyone’s too busy!
