Minutes 13 May Langton

Present: David, Brett, Collette, Diane, Tara, Paul, Carl, Lena, John, Beryl, Toby, Janine, Ros, Katherine, Ian, Jon, Claire

Chair: Sophie P

Rolling chair
Sophie asked who would like to chair the meeting since we had all agreed we would have a rolling chair – no volunteers! Everyone please think about this for next time, it would be great if there were more people willing to give it a go.

New leaflet
This was passed around the group for discussion later

Update on Transition training
Brett said it was a brilliant weekend, it was quite deep and he was feeling a little shell-shocked. Good mix of facilitation techniques and exercises. Psychology parts were particularly interesting. Also liked how Transition allows individuals within the group to have freedom.

Paul also enjoyed the training and found it exhausting. There was a good mix of people – the movement is broader than you think! He found the science parts most challenging.

Paul suggested we consider holding a public open space session.

PEAT on the Screen
Collette gave an update. Purbeck Films have offered to provide the equipment and show the films for us. There’s hopefully some funding available for this (Beryl is working on it).

We need to provide refreshments for Corfe and Studland.
Katherine, Janine, Claire and Collette volunteered to make cakes.
Purbeck Vineyard have offered a discount on wine. We could possibly buy some wine and then ask for a suggested donation of £1.00.

  • Sophie to check with Katie about the deal from Purbeck Vineyard.

Volunteers needed for the film screenings. The following people volunteered to help:-
21 May @ Worth – Collette, Katherine, Lena, Diane, Sophie P and possibly Ros, Jon and Claire. Louise will also be there.
4 June @ Studland – Brett, Collette, Toby, Janine, Diane and possibly Lena, Jon and Claire. Louise should also be at this one.
6 June @ Corfe – Collette, Toby, Janine, Lena, Diane, Katherine, John, Sophie P and possibly Claire.
11 June @ Wareham – Ian, Brett, Collette, Janine, Toby, John, Sophie P, Andrew and possibly Jon and Ros.
Thanks everyone!

Ian pointed out that Rex are not currently advertising the screening of 11th Hour.

  • Sophie P to check this.

Screening of Age of Stupid with Infinergy
Infinergy, who are behind the new wind farm proposed in Wareham, have offered to screen Age of Stupid with us in Wareham. The group were split over this. There is a concern that because some of the Wareham community are strongly against the wind farm, this could be very damaging for PEAT. Some of the group also hadn’t made up their minds whether they supported this particular wind farm. Agreed we would not go ahead with this but would encourage Infinergy to show the film themselves.

  • Sophie P to let Infinergy know.

Website
David still can’t access the website.
Can Katie please check whether his ISP has been blocked?
Janine and Paul asked to be added as bloggers.

  • Sophie P to set them up.

All agreed to renew the domain name www.peat-da21.org for another 2 years, although we may consider using a more memorable name in future.
Quick whip round; collected £23, just what we need for the 2 year renewal. Thanks!

  • Katie to renew domain.

Cookbook
Katherine needs more autumnal recipes and puddings. Generally need more winter and spring recipes and some with cauliflower.

  • Everyone please send recipes to peat.cookbook@gmail.com.

Leaflet
Everyone liked the leaflet. Some people were concerned that the text was too small and that we should have it available in A4 size. Katherine had some comments about readability and grammar. Brett suggested that once we are happy with it we should get a banner made.

  • Katherine to send amendments to Jon
  • Jon to get finished version to Sophie P ASAP
  • Sophie P to get leaflet printed

Swanage conference
David is a member of The National Association of Field Studies Officers (www.nafso.org.uk) who are planning a conference in Swanage in January (3-6). Would PEAT like to run a workshop, run a stall or put something in the delegates pack? The next planning meeting is 3 June.
The group were in favour of being involved in some way, but this needs further research and discussion.

Open Space
Following the transition training, Brett, Sophie L and Paul suggested we have an open space session on the future of Transition Purbeck.
We had a discussion based on the question “How should Transition Purbeck move forward from here?”
People felt the aims of PEAT are:-
Campaigning
Education/ creating urgency to change
Enable people to know they’re not alone, even if it just means coming to meetings and not really contributing to the work
Lead people to a sustainable life
Helping people save money!

Transition Dorchester have recently simplified their constitution.
Brett, Sophie P, Katie, Beryl, Diane to form new constitution group.

  • Constitution group to come back with proposal for next meeting.

Everyone in the group was happy with the concept of having a core group and then other task groups that feed in to the core group. Once the constitution sorted, we need think about who should form each of the groups.

AOB
Diane is giving Steve McKenzie (and someone else at the council, not yet decided!) a Transition Handbook.

Collette; no-one from Purbeck is applying for Chalk and Cheese funding. We need to think about this! Collette and Katie have been attending the meetings where you can see applicants’ presentations and vote on which receive funding.

Tara; who’s interested in having a PEAT float in Swanage Carnival? The procession is 26 July.

  • If you’re interested please contact Tara (some people have shown interest during previous meeting.

Next meeting
Wednesday 17 June.

  • Sophie to find out if we can use the Weld Arms.

This will be a quick meeting from 7.30 – 8.30 followed by Green Drinks.
