Low impact homes

We support low-impact housing, whether that’s yurts or straw bale houses or any other sustainable alternatives to our carbon intensive homes, it’s clear we need a new way of building and running our homes.  There’s a growing number of people in Purbeck and wider afield wanting to live in homes that are built using natural materials and run and heated on renewable energy but the current planning system does not allow for this.

PEAT members are in regular contact with Purbeck District Council (PDC) planning board to promote low impact housing and with the Localism Bill and redevelopment of the Purbeck Core Strategy we hope this is finally the right time to get this issue taken seriously. We’d like to see policy included in the Core Strategy to allow Low Impact Developments in Purbeck (read what we’ve sent to PDC here); if you agree please contact Steve Mackenzie, CEO PDC (stevemackenzie@purbeck-dc.gov.uk), Bridget Downton, general manager of planning services (bridgetdownton@purbeck-dc.gov.uk) and Steve Dring, planning policy manager (stevedring@purbeck-dc.gov.uk) as well as your local councillor contact details can be found here:
