Save our forests

It’s the International Year of the Forests and while we engage in international discussions on how to save the world’s forests, we’re about to put our own under threat!

The government is planning to sell off our publicly owned forests, which includes Wareham Forest and others in Dorset. Whilst supporters of the initiative talk about the fantastic opportunity for charities and communities to buy the forests the reality sadly is that they don’t have the funds and the forests likely will end up in the hands of profit-seeking corporations. With new plans for power stations in the UK fuelled by millions of tonnes of wood chip there’s a real danger that our forests could be turned into industrial plantations which would be a disaster for our wildlife and ruin the peaceful walks in the countryside we all enjoy. We’re happy with our forests being in our hands and see no reason for this to change!

We support 38 Degrees campaign to save our forests.

The government is planning a massive sell off of our national forests. They could be auctioned and fenced off, run down, logged or turned into golf courses and holiday villages.

We can’t let that happen. We need to stop these plans. National treasures like the The Forest of Dean, Sherwood Forest and The New Forest could be sold off. Once they are gone, they will be lost forever.

A huge petition will force the government to rethink its plans. If we can prove how strongly the public are against this, they will have to back down. Please sign the petition now.
