The PEAT Energy group is all about helping the transition by encouraging both a reduction in energy use and the local production of renewable, sustainable, low-carbon energy. Dorset is far behind it’s renewable energy targets and whilst we all want to preserve the beauty and diversity of this beautiful area we all need to take responsibility for where our energy comes from.
We support the proposed 4 turbines at East Stoke. Find out more at www.yestowind.org.uk.
At the moment we are at the stage of raising awareness; campaigns and talks.
The near future will consist of talks about energy use in the home and the new ‘green energy cash-back schemes’ to the public, Parish Councils, unsuspecting passers-by and pretty much anyone who will listen.
We have talked at the West Lulworth parish meeting, the Purbeck area DAPTC, Wareham Town Council, and briefly introduced ourselves at most of Purbeck’s Parish and Town Councils. Our first public talk was held at Wareham Town Hall on the 10th March 2010. About 30 people came along, most seemed enthused by renewable energy, and all were enthused by the cakes on offer.
If anyone wants a talk about energy in any form (or the LHC), just get in touch.
Next Event:
Renewable Energy Open Day
There are now several financial subsidies available to reward those who invest in renewable energy for their homes; both electricity and heat. This event will start with a short talk about the technologies and subsidies at the Purbeck Sports Centre in Wareham, which will then be followed by a tour around some of the existing installations. We hope to see solar thermal panels, solar PV panels, a biomass heating scheme, a ground source heat pump and maybe a wind turbine. The owners may well talk you through what they did, and answer any questions you may have. If you are considering installing renewable energy, this free day will help you make an informed decision on what to by, and from whom.
